We partnered with First Voyage from zero to one: defining the product, designing the app, building the brand, and staying on as a growth partner as Momo grew past 3 million tasks created and a $2.5M seed round backed by a16z, Speedrun, SignalFire, and True Global.

Momo Self Care is an AI companion that helps people build habits. A digital pet reminds you of your tasks, rewards you with coins when you complete them, and talks you through your self-care with built-in guardrails.

Impact

  • 45.77% Day 1 retention, on par with category leaders like Duolingo (51%)

  • 200% month over month growth

  • 1M+ main tasks completed in the first three months

  • 1.3k+ App Store reviews at a 5.0 rating

  • $2.5M seed raised in December 2025

The challenge

Habit apps lose 4 out of 5 users in week one. Momo had to be the exception.

Self-care and habit apps live or die on retention: most lose the majority of their users within days, and the category’s Day 1 leaders sit around 50%. First Voyage came to us with a clear vision for an AI companion, but everything else had to be created from scratch: the product definition, the brand, and an experience that would make checking in with your pet a daily ritual instead of another abandoned habit app.

Solution

We designed the companion first, and built the product around the bond.

From there we designed the app zero to one: onboarding that gets you to your first completed task in minutes, a reward loop of coins and customization that makes progress visible, and AI conversations with guardrails that keep the guidance safe.


As a growth partner, we kept iterating on the data after launch: watching where users dropped off, tuning the habit loop, and shipping improvements that kept the retention curve close to the category's best.

We started with the emotional core: Momo the pet. The brand, the visual language, and the tone were all built around a companion you want to care for, which in turn cares for you.

Our Accomplishments

Retention next to Duolingo’s, and a seed round to match.

Momo launched to 45.77% Day 1 retention, in line with category leaders like Duolingo at 51%, and grew 200% month over month with more than 1 million main tasks completed in the first three months.


Users rated it 5.0 on the App Store across 1.3k+ reviews, still growing at a good pace.
